What is “Geomatics”?

Geomatics is a multidisciplinary field of study and practice that integrates various technologies and methods for collecting, managing, analyzing, and visualizing geographic and spatial data. It encompasses a wide range of activities related to the acquisition, processing, and interpretation of information about the Earth’s surface and its features. Geomatics involves the use of tools and techniques such as Geographic Information Systems (GIS), remote sensing, global positioning systems (GPS), cartography, surveying, and geospatial analysis to address various applications, including land surveying, urban planning, environmental management, natural resource exploration, transportation planning, and many others. Essentially, geomatics helps professionals and researchers better understand and utilize spatial information for a wide array of purposes.
